Preparation
For the best results always thoroughly prepare the surface. Ensure the surfaces to be painted are clean dry and free from dust and dirt.
- Unvarnished floors - Sand along the floorboards with a 120 grit sandpaper and remove any dust by vacuuming and wiping with white spirit.
- Fill any holes or imperfections with .
- Varnished floors - Light sand the surface with a 120 grit sandpaper, and ensure to remove any old flaking varnish to leave you with a smooth surface.
- Let the dust settle, vacuum it up and then wipe down your floor with white spirit.
Application
We always recommend to test a small inconspicuous are to ensure you are happy with the finished results. Please note colours may vary on screen.
- Thoroughly stir the varnish to ensure a consistent colour.
- Start in the corner furthest from the door, work along the length of two floorboards at a time.
- Once the first coat is applied allow to dry for two hours and apply a further two coats with two hours between every coat.
- Before starting the third coat, very lightly sand along the length of the floorboards with a 240 grit sandpaper.
- Once cleaned and a third coat has been applied the floor can be walked on after two hours.
- Allow 24 hours before bringing furniture back, the floor will be diamond hard after 72 hours.
